Red Cucumber Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 gal. ripe, peeled and cored cucumbers
    2 c. lime
    2 1/2 gal. water
    1 c. vinegar
    1 Tbsp. alum
    1 oz. bottle red food coloring
    3 c. vinegar
    12 c. sugar
    20 to 30 oz. red hots
    3 c. water
    12 cinnamon sticks
Preparation
    Soak cucumbers 24 hours in lime and 2 1/2 gallons water.
    Wash real well and soak 3 hours in cold water.
    Mix 1 cup vinegar, alum and red food coloring.
    Add enough water to the cucumbers to cover well and simmer 2 hours.
    Drain well.
    Mix 3 cups vinegar, sugar, red hots, 3 cups water and cinnamon sticks.
    Heat until candy and sugar dissolve.
    Stir often so candy will not stick to pan.
    Bring to a boil and pour over cucumbers.
    Pour off liquid each morning for 3 mornings.
    Bring to boil and pour liquid back over cucumbers. The 4th morning, put pan on stove and bring all of it to a boil and put in jars.
