New Zealand Curry - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. ground beef
    1 large onion
    3/4 tsp. cloves
    3/4 tsp. garlic
    1 1/4 tsp. curry powder
    salt and pepper
    1 1/4 tsp. brown sugar
    1 1/4 tsp. red syrup
    1/2 c. raisins or sultanas
Preparation
    Brown beef; add onion and cook 2 minutes.
    Add spices, syrup and sugar.
    Cook 20 minutes, stirring often.
    Add water just to cover.
    Cook 20 minutes; add 1/2 cup sultanas and 1/2 chopped apple and 1 bay leaf.
    Thicken with flour.
    Serve over rice.
    Remove bay leaf before serving.
