Chocolate Icing - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1/4 c. Karo syrup
    1/2 c. milk
    1/2 c. margarine
    1 sq. unsweetened chocolate (1 oz.)
    1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Mix together thoroughly.
    Stir over low heat until shortening and chocolate are melted, stirring constantly.
    Bring rapidly to a full rolling boil; boil 1 minute.
    Remove from heat and beat until lukewarm.
    Add 1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring and continue beating until icing begins to lose its gloss.
    (Considerable beating is required.)
    If icing does not stiffen after 30 minutes, add 1 teaspoon confectioners sugar.
    If too stiff, add 1 teaspoon of milk.
