Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. medium size cucumbers, sliced thin
    8 small onions, sliced
    1 red pepper, cut in strips
    1 green pepper, cut in strips
    1/2 c. coarse salt
    cracked ice
    5 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    2 tsp. celery seed
    5 c. vinegar
Preparation
    Mix the first 4 ingredients with the salt and cracked ice; let stand for 3 hours.
    Drain.
    To the pickles, add the rest of the ingredients.
    Bring to a boil, then seal in hot jars.
    Yields 8 pints.
