Floating Island - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 qt. milk
    5 eggs (reserve 2 whites)
    1/2 c. sugar (scant)
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Beat eggs; add sugar and salt and add to milk.
    Put in a double boiler over low heat.
    Stir constantly.
    When mixture forms a thin coat on a spoon, empty immediately in a large bowl as large as a mixing bowl.
    Add vanilla immediately.
    Make meringue by beating the 2 reserved whites and adding 2 tablespoons sugar. Drop by tablespoonfuls on top for \"floating islands.\"
    Chill and serve.
