Fruit Salad Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 large can crushed pineapple
    1 small can mandarin oranges
    1 c. syrup
    1/2 c. sugar
    3 Tbsp. cornstarch
    1 envelope unflavored gelatin
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. orange juice
    1/4 c. lemon juice
    1 egg
    2 c. mini marshmallows
    1/2 c. nuts
    2 c. whipped topping
Preparation
    Drain fruits and reserve 1 cup syrup.
    Combine syrup in saucepan with sugar, cornstarch, gelatin, salt and orange and lemon juices.
    Cook until thickened and boil for 2 minutes.
    Add a small amount of this to beaten egg.
    Return to hot mixture and cook 1 minute longer.
    Cool to room temperature and fold in the fruits, marshmallows, nuts and topping.
    Use a 9 x 9-inch dish. Cool.
    Garnish with maraschino cherries.
    Cut in squares.
