Old-Fashioned Beef Stew - cooking recipe
Ingredients
-
1/3 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 lb. boneless stewing beef
1/4 c. vegetable shortening
1 qt. boiling water
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 large onion, chopped
2 bay leaves
12 small carrots
8 small new potatoes, peeled
Preparation
-
Mix flour, salt and pepper; roll cubed beef into mixture. Shake off excess.
Melt shortening over high heat in a Dutch oven or a heavy-bottomed pot with cover.
When shortening is hot, add cubed beef (4 or 5 pieces at a time, so as not to crowd them). Brown beef on all sides and remove, then add additional pieces.
