Frosted Green Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 head lettuce, shredded
    1 small onion, sliced in rings
    3 stalks celery, sliced
    salt and pepper to taste
    1 can water chestnuts, drained and sliced
    1 pkg. frozen green peas, separated
Preparation
    In large salad bowl, add ingredients in order.
    Frost with mayonnaise (thick).
    Sprinkle with 2 teaspoons sugar.
    Sprinkle generously with Parmesan cheese.
    Cover tightly with foil and refrigerate overnight.
    Just before serving, cover with sliced hard-boiled eggs.
    Crumble bacon bits and croutons over top.
