Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. cucumbers
    8 small onions
    2 green peppers, sliced paper thin (optional)
    1/2 c. salt
    fresh water to cover
    5 c. vinegar
    5 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1/2 tsp. ground cloves
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 tsp. celery seed
Preparation
    Soak cucumbers, onions and peppers in salt water for 3 hours. Drain well.
    Heat vinegar and sugar.
    Add spices and mustard and celery seed.
    Add cucumbers (etc.) and boil 10 minutes.
    Hot pack in quarts or pints.
    Seal.
