"Cream Soda Without A Fountain" - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 lb. sugar
    3 pt. water
    3 nutmegs, grated
    whites of 10 eggs
    1 oz. gum arabic
    20 drops oil of lemon (or other extract)
    8 oz. bicarbonate of soda
    6 oz. tartaric acid
Preparation
    Beat egg whites well.
    Combine all ingredients (except soda and tartartic acid).
    Place over gentle fire, stirring well for about 30 minutes.
    Remove from fire and strain.
    Divide into two parts in two bottles or jars.
    Into one bottle add soda, into other bottle add tartaric acid; shake each well.
    When cold, they are ready to use by pouring 3 to 4 spoonfuls from both parts into separate glasses, each filled 1/3 full with water.
    Stir each and only then pour them together.
