Joan'S Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. dried northern beans (navy), washed
    1 shank end ham with some bone
    1 bay leaf
    1 medium onion, diced
    1 c. chopped carrots
    4 stalks celery, diced
Preparation
    Let beans soak in water for about an hour until they start to swell. Pour off the water, add ham bone or ham hocks.
    Add enough water to cover the ham bone and beans.
    Add the rest of the ingredients.
    Bring to a boil and let simmer for about 4 or 5 hours.
