French Torte - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. sugar
    3 eggs, separated
    1 c. dates or raisins
    2 c. nut meats, coarsely chopped
    5 Tbsp. flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/4 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Combine sugar and beaten egg yolks.
    Add 4 tablespoons flour, salt and baking powder. Mix remainder of flour with dates or raisins and nuts. To the batter, fold in stiffly beaten egg whites and vanilla.
    Fold in dates or raisins and nuts.
    Bake in greased and floured pan for 20 minutes at 375\u00b0.
    While still warm, cut into squares.
    Roll in granulated sugar.
    Makes 24 squares.
