Split Pea Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. split peas
    1- c. water
    1/2 onion, chopped
    4 large carrots, chopped
    4 sprigs celery, chopped
    1 potato, cut in small pieces
    1 tsp. salt
    pepper
    rice or pasta
Preparation
    Sort and wash peas.
    Cook peas and onion for about 45 minutes. Add carrots and celery and cook until almost done.
    Add potato and cook.
    Add salt and pepper.
    (Add water if needed.)
    Cook rice separate or pasta separate.
    Add to soup.
    Break pasta into small pieces.
