Ingredients
-
2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
2 1/2 c. coarsely chopped onions
5 c. water *
5 beef bouillon cubes *
pepper to taste
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
6 thick slices French bread, stale
8 oz. Mozzarella or Provolone cheese, sliced
Preparation
-
Melt butter in saucepan, add onions and saute until lightly browned (about 5 minutes).
Add water, bouillon, pepper and Worcestershire sauce.
Simmer, covered, 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
Pour soup into broiler safe bowls, break 1 slice of bread into large cubes and float on top of soup (1 slice for each bowl of soup). Place cheese on top of each bowl.
Place under broiler until cheese bubbles and browns slightly.
This is the easiest \"homemade\" soup I've ever made!
