Date Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. brown sugar
    1/2 c. water
    1 1/2 c. flour
    1 c. brown sugar
    3/4 c. butter
    8 oz. pkg. pitted date halves
    1/2 tsp. water
    1 c. oats
    1/2 c. nuts
Preparation
    Grease a 13 x 9-inch pan.
    In a medium pan, combine 1/4 cup brown sugar, dates and water.
    Bring to a boil.
    Reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes or until thick.
    Remove from heat.
    Stir in vanilla.
    Spoon flour into cup, level off.
    In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, 1 cup brown sugar, nuts and salt.
    Use fork and blend in butter until mixture is coarse crumbs.
    Reserve 2 cups of crumb mixture for topping.
    Press crumb mixture firmly in bottom of greased pan.
    Spread evenly with date mixture.
    Sprinkle with remaining crumbs.
    Pat lightly.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 until golden brown.
