Cabbage And Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. dried white beans
    1 smoked ham hock (12 oz.)
    3 to 5 cloves garlic, crushed
    1 medium onion, chopped
    3 carrots, cut in 1/2-inch pieces
    1/2 head green cabbage, shredded (about 4 c.)
    1 tsp. salt
    3/4 tsp. pepper
Preparation
    Rinse beans.
    Place in large pan in cold water to cover.
    Soak 6 hours; drain.
    In same pot, combine beans, ham hock, garlic, onion and 8 cups of water.
    Bring to boil; cover.
    Reduce heat and simmer 1 hour.
    Add remaining ingredients and simmer 1 hour.
