Coconut-Chocolate Meringue Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. butter
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1/2 c. sugar
    3 eggs, separated
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. flour
    1/4 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. chocolate chips (1 pkg.)
    3/4 c. chopped nuts
    1 c. flaked coconut
    1 c. packed brown sugar
Preparation
    Heat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Grease oblong 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
    Mix butter, brown sugar, sugar, egg yolk and vanilla.
    Beat 2 minutes. Blend flour, baking powder, soda and salt.
    Mix thoroughly together with egg mixture.
    Spread or pat dough into pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts on top and press into dough. Beat egg whites; gradually add 1 cup brown sugar and beat until stiff.
    Mix coconut with egg white mixture.
    Spread on top of dough over nuts and chips.
    Bake 35 to 40 minutes.
