Ingredients

3 lb. medium white onions
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 tsp. pepper
2 tsp. paprika
2 tsp. salt
2 bay leaves
3/4 c. flour
8 cans beef broth
1 c. white wine
16 oz. Swiss cheese
French bread, brown and serve style
Preparation

Slice onions 1/8-inch thick.
Saute in butter over low heat for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Add seasonings up to and including flour.
Mix well, add broth and wine.
Simmer 2 hours.
Add Kitchen Bouquet for coloring if desired.
Refrigerate overnight.
Before serving, brown bread and heat soup.
Layer bread, soup, cheese and broil until cheese melts.
