Ingredients

2 c. sifted cake flour
3/4 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. butter
1 c. sugar
3 eggs, separated
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. lemon extract
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 Tbsp. distilled vinegar
Preparation

Sift flour, soda and salt together.
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add egg yolks and beat until very light. Add vanilla and lemon extract, blending well.
Add dry ingredients alternately with combined buttermilk and vinegar.
Beat until batter is smooth.
Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
Pour into 2 greased 8-inch cake pans.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
