Pineapple Chewy Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. vanilla wafers, crushed fine
    3 1/2 oz. flaked coconut (1 1/4 c.)
    1/2 c. butter
    1 1/2 c. sifted confectioners sugar
    2 eggs
    19 oz. crushed pineapple, drained (1 c.)
    1 c. walnuts, broken
    3/4 c. well-drained maraschino cherries
    1 c. Cool Whip
Preparation
    Place half crumbs on bottom of 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
    Sprinkle with half of coconut.
    In separate bowl, gradually cream butter and sugar.
    Add eggs, one at a time; beat well each time.
    Spread over coconut mixture, then fold pineapple, nuts and cherries into whipped cream; spread over mixture.
    Sprinkle remaining coconut and crumbs over top.
    Chill for 4 hours.
