Apple Fritters - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sifted flour
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1 egg, beaten
    1/3 c. milk
    2 large apples, pared and sliced in eighths
Preparation
    Sift first 4 ingredients into mixing bowl.
    Add egg, milk and shortening.
    Beat until smooth.
    Dip apples in batter and fry in deep hot shortening about 4 minutes or until brown.
    Drain on paper towel.
    Serve with maple syrup or a sprinkle of confectioners sugar.
    Makes 6 servings.
