Ingredients

1/2 c. butter
6 medium onions, sliced
1 (10 3/4 oz.) can cream of chicken soup
1 c. milk
salt and pepper to taste
3/4 lb. Swiss or Gruyere cheese, grated
French bread slices, buttered
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Butter ovenproof soup bowls.
Melt 1/2 cup butter in skillet over medium heat. Cook onions until tender and transfer to soup bowls.
Mix soup, milk, salt and pepper to taste and pour over onions.
Top with French bread slice and grated cheese.
Bake 20 to 30 minutes until bubbly.
