Deep-Dish Apple Pie - cooking recipe

10-inch (2-crust) pie pastry
5 c. sliced Granny Smith apples
1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 Tbsp. butter
Preparation

Line pie plate with half of the pastry, rolled to 1/8-inch thickness.
Set aside.
Cook apples in water in a heavy covered pan 5 or 6 minutes, or until apples are about half cooked.
Drain and cool.
Preheat oven to 450\u00b0.
Turn the apples into the pie plate.
Mix the sugar, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon together. Sprinkle over apples and dot with butter.
Roll out top crust. Place over apples; trim, turn under bottom crust and flute.
Cut vents in top.
Sprinkle with additional sugar.
Bake 10 minutes before reducing oven to 350\u00b0.
Bake 30 to 40 minutes until crust is nicely browned.
Serves 8.
