Palm Desert Stuffed Date Drops - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. pitted dates (approximately 70)
    1 c. pecan or walnut halves
    1 1/4 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/4 c. soft shortening
    3/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
    1 egg
    1/2 c. sour cream
    Golden Frosting (see recipe)
Preparation
    Heat oven to 400\u00b0.
    Stuff dates with nut halves.
    Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt together into a bowl.
    In a large bowl, beat shortening until creamy.
    Add brown sugar and beat until smooth.
    Add egg and beat well.
    Add dry ingredients alternating with sour cream.
    Stir dates in gently.
    Scoop mixture by tablespoonfuls (including a date in each tablespoonful) and drop on lightly greased cookie sheets.
    Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
    Cool.
    Frost cookies if desired with Golden Frosting (see recipe).
    Store in airtight container.
    Makes approximately 5 dozen cookies.
