Good Moist Date Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. chopped dates
    1/2 c. water
    2 1/4 c. sifted flour
    1 1/2 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    3/4 c. shortening
    3/4 c. sugar
    2 unbeaten eggs
    2/3 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    First cook 1 cup dates and 1/2 cup water for 5 minutes; stir until smooth and thick.
    Cool.
    Sift together all dry ingredients. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs one at a time, beat well.
    Stir in date mixture.
    Combine buttermilk and vanilla; add alternately with dry ingredients to creamed mixture.
    Can use electric mixer at low speed.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 55 minutes.
    Can use loaf pan or 2 cake pans or Bundt pan with your favorite icing.
    (I use creamed cheese icing.)
