Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. cornmeal
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg
1/2 c. milk
2 Tbsp. shortening
2 c. oil

Preparation

Mix the cornmeal, baking powder, sugar and salt in large bowl. Beat egg in small bowl.
Stir in milk and shortening.
Add to cornmeal mixture; stir until moistened.
Heat oil in heavy saucepan.
Drop cornmeal mixture by tablespoon into hot oil.
Cook until golden.
