Okra Pilau - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 or 6 strips bacon
    1 1/2 lb. okra, chopped
    1 medium onion, sliced
    salt and pepper to taste
    1 1/2 c. water
    1 1/2 c. raw rice
Preparation
    Fry bacon slowly and remove from pan to drain on paper towels. Add okra and onion to bacon grease; saute until tender. Season with salt and pepper. Add water.
    Pour mixture over rice in top of steamer. Add crumbled bacon.
    Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, with fork for about 1 hour.
    Makes 6 to 8 servings.
