Rhubarb Upside-Down Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    3 c. sliced fresh rhubarb (about 1 lb.)
    1/3 c. shortening
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 1/4 c. flour
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 c. milk
Preparation
    Combine 1 cup sugar and rhubarb in saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar is completely melted and rhubarb begins to soften, 5 to 8 minutes.
    Spread evenly in greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan.
