Ingredients

1 long thin loaf French or Italian bread
8 large eggs
3 c. milk
4 tsp. sugar
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 Tbsp. margarine or butter
Preparation

Grease a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
Cut bread into 1 inch thick slices and arrange in one layer of pan.
On large bowl beat eggs with remaining ingredients, except butter (margarine).
When thoroughly mixed, pour over bread.
Cover with foil and refrigerate 4 to 36 hours.
Bake uncovered.
Dot with butter and bake at 350\u00b0 for 45 to 50 minutes until bread is puffy and lightly browned.
Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
Serves 8.
