Ingredients

5 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. milk
4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/4 c. sugar
3 eggs
6 Tbsp. melted shortening
enough Crisco for a deep fryer
Preparation

Sift dry ingredients together and add eggs and milk.
Mix well. Add melted shortening. Roll out on floured board to 1/4-inch thick.
Cut out doughnuts and deep fry until golden brown.
Drain on cake rack and dust with cinnamon or powdered sugar.
