Picnic Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. chopped diced dates
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. sugar
    3/4 c. shortening
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. all purpose flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1/2 c. chocolate chips
    1/2 c. butterscotch chips
Preparation
    Boil 1 1/2 cups water.
    Pour over dates and soda.
    Let cool. Add sugar, shortening, eggs, vanilla, flour, salt and cinnamon. Mix well and pour into 9 x 13 inch greased pan.
    Mix brown sugar and chips and sprinkle over batter.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 30 minutes. Serve in pan.
