Molasses Stack Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. sorghum molasses
    6 c. self-rising flour
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. ginger
    1/8 tsp. cloves
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1 c. buttermilk
Preparation
    Beat shortening and sugar together until light.
    Beat eggs in one at a time.
    Add vanilla and molasses and mix well.
    Sift flour with cinnamon, ginger, cloves and nutmeg.
    Add to shortening mixture alternately with buttermilk.
    Mix thoroughly; the dough should not be sticky.
    Add more flour, if needed.
