Date Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 c. sugar
2 Tbsp. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1/8 tsp. salt
1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates, chopped
1 c. walnuts, chopped
1 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/3 c. flour
Preparation

Pour the boiling water over the dates, walnuts and soda. Stir.
Add the sugar, shortening, salt and vanilla.
Stir well. Add the flour and mix well.
Put in greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes until tested done.
When cool, frost with Penuche Frosting.
