Senate'S Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 pkg. small navy beans
    2 lb. smoked ham hocks
    1 onion, chopped
Preparation
    Wash navy beans in hot water.
    Put beans and ham hocks in large heavy pot with 4 quarts of water.
    Cook slowly for 3 1/2 hours.
    Braise the chopped onion in butter and add to the soup. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
    Serves 8.
