Chocolate Chip Date Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. chopped dates
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. cocoa
1 pkg. chocolate chips
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Preparation

Pour boiling water over dates and add 1 teaspoon soda; let cool.
Cream the shortening, 1 cup sugar and beaten eggs.
Add to cooled date mixture.
Add the vanilla.
Stir flour, cocoa, soda and salt.
Add to batter and mix well.
Pour into greased 9 x 13-inch cake pan.
Mix chocolate chips, sugar and nuts together.
Sprinkle over top of cake.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes.
Serve with whipped cream and a cherry on top of each piece of cake.
