Fried Green Tomatoes - cooking recipe
Ingredients

green tomatoes (that are about to ripen)
meal
flour
buttermilk
bacon drippings or oil for frying
coarse black pepper
Preparation

Slice tomatoes in 1/2-inch thick pieces. Dip in buttermilk, then in a mix of 1/2 yellow meal and 1/2 flour.
Brown on one side; turn and brown other side. Dust with coarse black pepper. Serve at once with crisp bacon and chilled applesauce.
