Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    16 c. sliced cucumbers (about 4 lb.)
    6 c. thinly sliced onions (optional)
    1/2 c. salt
    ice cubes
    5 c. sugar
    5 c. cider vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    1 1/2 tsp. mustard seed
Preparation
    Combine cucumbers and onions in large bowl.
    Layer with salt; cover with ice cubes.
    Let stand 1 1/2 hours.
    Drain and rinse. Place remaining ingredients in a kettle and bring to a boil.
    Add cucumbers and onions.
    Return to a boil.
    Pack hot into hot jars to within 1/4-inch of top.
    Remove any air bubbles.
    Adjust caps. Process 15 minutes in hot water bath.
    Yields 6 pints.
