Squash Pickle - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gallon thinly sliced squash
    8 medium thinly sliced onions
    1/2 cup salt
    5 cups vinegar
    5 cups sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 tsp. pickling spice
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
Preparation
    Soak squash and onions in 1 gallon ice water for 3 hours and drain.
    Bring the vinegar, sugar and spices to a boil.
    Drop in the squash and onions and boil for 3 minutes.
    Pack in sterilized jars and seal.
