Mother'S Oatmeal Bread - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 1/4 c. boiling water
1 1/2 c. rolled oats
1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. brown sugar
3 tsp. salt
3/4 c. warm water
2 pkg. dry yeast
3 eggs
approximately 8 c. flour
Preparation

Stir together in large mixer bowl, boiling water, rolled oats, shortening, brown sugar and salt.
Cool to lukewarm, then dissolve yeast in warm water and add yeast, eggs and 1/2 flour to lukewarm mixture.
Beat 2 minutes at medium speed on mixer or 300 vigorous strokes by hand.
Scrape sides and bottom of bowl frequently.
Add rest of flour and mix with spoon until flour is thoroughly blended into dough.
Knead until dough is smooth and elastic and quits being sticky.
Cover and let rise until doubled in size.
Punch down and then shape into 3 loaves.
Place in 3 greased pans. Cover and let rise until doubled.
Bake 40 to 45 minutes at 350\u00b0. When baked, brush tops with butter.
