Bran Muffins - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. shortening or melted margarine
    3 c. sugar
    3 Tbsp. brown sugar
    3 Tbsp. baking soda
    1 Tbsp. salt
    2 c. boiling water
    2 c. 100% bran (coarse)
    5 c. flour
    2 c. raisins or dates
    4 eggs
    4 c. bran flakes
    1 qt. buttermilk or regular milk
Preparation
    Pour water over 100% bran; let it stand.
    In a very large bowl, cream shortening, sugar and eggs.
    Add milk, then bran mixture.
    Stir until blended.
    Stir flour, soda and salt and add to mixture.
    Mix well.
    Add bran flakes and fold in until just moist. Add raisins or dates.
    Chill for 1 day.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 20 minutes.
    Keeps in refrigerator for 6 weeks.
