Crunchy Peanut Butter Bars - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 cup shortening
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
1 egg
2 1/4 cups unsifted all purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 pkg. (12-oz.) peanut butter chips
1 cup diced candied fruit
1/2 cup flaked coconut
1/2 cup chopped, toasted almonds
1 Tbsp. butter
1 Tbsp. milk
1 cup sifted confectioners' sugar
35 candied cherries, halved
Preparation

In large mixing bowl cream shortening with sugar until light and creamy.
Beat in egg.
Add flour, baking powder and salt. Blend well.
Stir in peanut butter chips, fruit, coconut and almonds.
Spread into greased 16 x 11 inch baking pan.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 20 minutes.
Meanwhile in small saucepan melt butter with milk over low heat.
Remove from heat.
Stir in sugar until creamy. Drizzle over warm cookies.
Cut into 2 x 1 inch bars.
Garnish each with halved cherry.
When cool, wrap each bar in plastic wrap for mailing or giving.
This kitchen-tested recipe makes 70 bars.
