Plum Upside-Down Cake - cooking recipe

2 Tbsp. butter
1/3 c. brown sugar
2 c. pitted and thinly sliced firm red or purple plums
1/4 c. shortening
1 c. granulated sugar
1 large egg
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation

Preheat oven to 375\u00b0.
Measure butter into a 9-inch iron skillet or an 8-inch square pan.
Slide into oven long enough to melt.
Stir brown sugar into butter.
Arrange plums; set aside.
