Big Softies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. boiling water
    1 c. raisins
    1 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
    3/4 tsp. soda
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    3/4 c. shortening, soft
    3/4 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    1 1/2 c. quick or old fashioned oats, uncooked
Preparation
    Pour boiling water over raisins and let stand for 10 minutes. Drain raisins, reserving 1/4 cup liquid.
    Sift together flour, soda, salt and spices into a bowl.
    Add shortening, sugar, eggs and reserved liquid.
    Beat until smooth, about 2 minutes.
    Stir in raisins and oats.
    Chill dough.
    Drop by tablespoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets.
    Bake in preheated moderate oven (350\u00b0) about 15 minutes.
    Makes 3 dozen large cookies.
