Royal Icing - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 egg whites at room temperature
    1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
    1 lb. powdered sugar, sifted
Preparation
    Beat egg whites and cream of tartar in large mixing bowl at medium speed until foamy.
    Gradually add sugar; mix well.
    Beat 5 to 7 minutes.
    May be tinted with paste food color.
    Makes enough icing for 5 dozen cookies.
