Split Pea And Barley Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 c. chicken broth
    3 1/2 c. water
    1 1/2 c. split peas
    1/2 c. barley
    3/4 c. carrots, diced
    1/2 c. onion, chopped
    1 large celery stalk, diced
    1 tsp. garlic, minced
    1/4 tsp. dried thyme
    1/4 tsp. white pepper
Preparation
    Put all ingredients in a 3 or 4-quart pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 1 hour until peas begin to fall apart when stirred and barley and vegetables are tender.
