Shadow Pie - cooking recipe
Ingredients

4 eggs, separated
2 c. milk, scalded
1 Tbsp. cornstarch
1 c. sugar
1 pkg. chocolate bits (12 oz.)
1 tsp. vanilla
1 Tbsp. unflavored gelatin
1/4 c. cold water
1 (10-inch) baked pastry shell
Preparation

Beat egg yolks in top of double boiler and gradually add milk. Blend cornstarch and 1/2 cup sugar and add.
Cook over hot water stirring constantly until mixture coats a metal spoon.
Dissolve 1 cup chocolate bits in 1 1/2 cups of the mixture.
Add vanilla. Pour in pastry shell.
Soften gelatin in water 5 minutes. Dissolve in remaining egg mixture and cool.
Beat egg whites until frothy and gradually beat in remaining sugar.
Fold into gelatin mixture and pour over chocolate layer.
Chill.
Chip remaining chocolate bits and sprinkle over top of pie.
Approximate yield, 8 portions.
