Divinity - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 c. sugar
    2/3 c. water
    1 tsp. vanilla
    chopped pecans (if desired)
    1/2 c. white Karo syrup
    2 egg whites
    pinch of salt
Preparation
    Combine sugar, syrup and water. Cook until forms a good soft ball. Pour 1/3 of this into stiffly beaten egg whites. Put remaining syrup back on stove and cook until it forms a very firm ball. Pour 1/3 of this over egg whites; beat again for about 5 minutes with electric mixer. Cook remaining syrup until it spins a thread and looks stringy when dropped in water. Pour this over egg whites and beat a few more minutes with electric mixer. Add vanilla, salt and pecans if desired. Then beat by hand slowly until it loses the shine or until ready to drop from spoon. Spoon onto wax paper.
