Caramel Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. white sugar
    1/2 c. buttermilk
    2 Tbsp. white Karo syrup
    2 sticks margarine
    1 tsp. soda, mixed in buttermilk
Preparation
    Cook until it forms a soft ball in cold water (234\u00b0 on candy thermometer).
    Remove from heat and beat until smooth.
    Cool and spread between layers and on top.
    Decorate top with nuts, if desired.
