Peach Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 bushel firm small peaches (press type)
    12 lb. sugar
    1 qt. vinegar
    1 qt. water
    2 dozen whole cloves
    6 or 8 cinnamon sticks, broken
Preparation
    Peel peaches.
    Boil sugar, vinegar, water and spices until a moderately thick syrup.
    Add peaches, about a dozen at a time. Boil until tender enough to stick with a straw to the seed.
    Stir occasionally.
    Fill jars with peaches.
    Continue until all peaches are cooked.
    Fill jars with syrup and seal.
