Ingredients

1 c. warm water
3 Tbsp. sugar
1 pkg. yeast
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. salt
3 Tbsp. melted shortening
3 c. flour
Preparation

Mix warm water, sugar and yeast.
Let stand until foamy.
Add egg, salt, shortening and flour.
Roll out on floured board.
Cut and let rise on lightly greased wax paper for 30 minutes.
Fry until golden.
Yields 24 doughnuts.
